For traditional VR headsets, this goes through minor processing (warp/distortion) and is sent 1:1 to the VR headset's screen. The final rendered frame at this point is the highest quality it can be. Nothing particularly special here you need GPU power to process graphical effects and a 3D world at high resolutions like 3616x1840 at 90Hz. Games are rendered at whatever resolution and quality your GPU can handle. Here's a short-but-lengthy explanation as to how rendering works for VR headsets also that explains why the GPU encoder is important. AVC = H.264 and HEVC = H.265 Oculus references AVC/HEVC but others do H.264/H.265.AMD Link (the streaming stuff built into Adrenaline drivers) is only mentioned in this thread once and isn't relevant for VR.ALVR and ReLive VR are also 3rd-party alternatives to Oculus Link.VD is Virtual Desktop, the most popular PCVR software, and is a 3rd-party alternative to Oculus Link. Most of this thread talks about Oculus Link, as in Oculus's official PCVR software. It can't be hard for AMD to attach a Quest 2 to those test machines they have. Overall, I'd like AMD to improve their encoder stack or to come out and say why others are using it wrong, and to not break official Oculus Link every few drivers. This will only get worse with higher refresh rate and resolution headsets, and AMD should be sweating if Cambria keeps the same Link encode/decode process. The Quest 2 overall experience was notably better with the 3060 (higher encode resolution for 90 and 120Hz), even though the 6600 XT has better raw-performance. I believe I was the first person to make a point of this publicly with the Quest 2. The Quest 2 was a muddy compressed mess, and I had to figure out why. I was coming from a Rift CV1 with the same GPU. This first became an issue for me when I got a Quest 2 with a RX 580. AMD should be dedicating a large chunk of resources to make this experience as great as possible, instead of seemingly just making their stack good-enough for lossy 1080p Twitch streaming. This is more of a rant as I don't expect a forum post to kick a fire under AMD to address this, but I would like to try to understand what AMD is trying to do here? Pushing raw data over display cables isn't the future for VR headsets, and GPU encoding is seemingly here to stay for a while. AMD's already known for not being the best for GPU encoding, and that is spreading to the VR community as well (check some NV vs AMD Quest 2 threads). AMD doesn't seem to put effort into their encoder stack beyond AMD Link, and they don't care about breaking support widespread for the most popular and affordable headset, further cementing the rumor that AMD sucks for VR. AMD is well aware that their driver on their supported Polaris platform has been broken with a popular piece of software for PCVR since 2020. Notably the VD issues have been reported to AMD, and the main VD developer has (reportedly) also discussed the issues with AMD. AMD broke Oculus Link with the May preview driver, in all 3 22.5.2 drivers, and also 22.6.1, without any known-issue notes, and there are floods of reports about this as of lately in various communities (it's also with other VR headsets).Virtual Desktop claims HEVC last worked on 5000/6000 GPUs with driver 21.10.2 (there are no known-issues in the driver notes about this).AMD broke Oculus Link support entirely for 5-6 driver releases starting with 20.11.2.Virtual Desktop has display driver crashes on Polaris on any driver above 20.10.1 (Oct 2020).Varjo Aero doesn't support any AMD GPU (they don't specify why directly, but I heard somewhere it was encoder-related).Oculus doesn't support HEVC encoding in any situation with any AMD GPU today (they do HEVC for Oculus Air Link on NVIDIA) (see a post below for a registry mod). It uses the GPU encoder, and I've ran into too many issues with encoding in-general and gotten too many vague answers as to why that all seemingly point to AMD. I didn't think much of a GPU encoder prior to getting a Quest 2 VR headset.

It is impossible to know which of its many sections seized Fitzgerald, but the pages on “money” are a potent corollary to his inquiry into American wealth: we can imagine Fitzgerald being engaged by them. The Decline of the West is a perplexing, lurid text, imposing in manner, epic in scale, intermittently provocative, tedious as a whole. Retrospectively, Fitzgerald could have felt that he must have been reading Spengler in 1924–1925 because this German author’s theory of historical degeneration matched the mood that pervades The Great Gatsby. It still remains so” (December 10, 1928). It was imperative to read Spengler, to sympathize or revolt. Spenglerism spurted from the pens of countless disciples. Cultivated European discourse quickly became Spengler-saturated. Later in the decade, Time magazine declared: “When the first volume of The Decline of the West appeared in Germany a few years ago, thousands of copies were sold. But in the early to mid-1920s, there were articles and essays in English about Spengler that Fitzgerald could have read, and soon thereafter he may have turned to the book itself. This could not literally have been the case: Fitzgerald was unable to read German and an English translation only became available in 1926, the year after The Great Gatsby’s publication. In a letter, June 6, 1940, Fitzgerald told Maxwell Perkins, his editor at Scribner’s, that he had read Spengler “the same summer I was writing The Great Gatsby and I don’t think I ever quite recovered from him.” When we think in this disenchanted way about The Great Gatsby, published in 1925, we might keep in mind that one of the most influential works of cultural history in this period was Oswald Spengler’s The Decline of the West, two volumes, 1918–1922. Even if they fulfill their dreams and gain their desires in material terms, they will not be happy. Reading The Great Gatsby is intended, it appears, as an indoctrination in reverse: we require young people to study Fitzgerald’s novel in high school and college courses so they realize, before embarking on their careers, that the American Dream they have heard about and will hear about, is beyond their reach. But the prime place accorded to The Great Gatsby in the literary canon suggests that Americans have known all along that the American Dream is largely myth, ideology, propaganda. Those born at the bottom, but who possess spirit, pluck, and determination, can rise to prosperity and personal fulfillment immigrants, unable to speak English, can learn the language and acquire education, find employment, marry, buy a home, have children, lead decent lives in safe neighborhoods, vote in democratic elections, and enjoy a comfortable retirement. We honor and profess to believe in the American Dream, a dream that we say the nation’s history has shown to be a reality for many millions. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby to the American Dream, for this dream is one of equal opportunity, and the celebration of material well-being and personal success, of contentment and happiness, whereas the novel concludes with the demise of its deluded protagonist, shot dead in a swimming pool by a deranged husband who believes that Gatsby killed his wife by smashing into her in his fancy car. One differentiating factor when compared to some bikes is the fact that most of the bike’s running gear other than its pedals is encased inside a hard plastic shroud. It uses magnetic resistance (standard for this price bracket), a belt drive for its flywheel (to ensure quiet operation), and LOOK Delta compatible cycling shoes (fairly standard). Looking at the bike’s build construction, there are a few specific highlights to call out. Given the fervent evolution of tech (especially when it comes to phones, tablets, and other display devices), this seems like a good bit of future-proofing on the part of Flywheel. Some people have made the case that the setup of the Flywheel home bike is more versatile in terms of product development/evolution. This method is in stark contrast to that of Peloton, whose sensors feed directly to its built-in screen. Because the Flywheel home bike is designed to be used in connection with a smart TV or tablet (when purchased without a built-in screen), the bikes sensors feed data to a controller that then pushes the requisite info into the Flywheel Sports app regardless of where you’re choosing to follow along. One of the key differences about how the Flywheel home bike operates in comparison to the Peloton bike is in how it captures and uses ride data. Fortunately for Fly, the same cannot be said of their streaming instruction services, meaning that if you really want the “Fly Experience” you’ll at the very least have to go with their base-spec bike. Brands like Echelon, Horizon, and Bowflex have come out with more price-conscious bikes capable of running the Peloton training app, bringing down the overall cost of the “Peloton experience”. Rating: 90/100. Seeing where the Flywheel home bike stacks up in the market is interesting on account of the growing affordable alternatives popping up on the scene. With any new upstart brands there are risks involved, which is why we are often more prone to recommend fitness equipment from brands that have been in the category for a longer period. This is an unfortunate set of circumstances for riders who purchased the Flywheel bike during its brief run, and it’s also a real eye opener when it comes to this category. Unfortunately, after a legal battle between the two brands, it seems Peloton came out on top, and Flywheel was forced to end production of its bike. The bike itself (as you’ll see below), was very well built for its price of entry, and the cult-like following that Fly had already developed in the indoor cycling studio scene has already converted a significant audience who were looking to take advantage of bringing Fly classes into their own home. The business model was near identical-classes recorded in one of Fly’s studios in Manhattan, and live streaming was available for real-time participation. They attempted to go head-to-head with Peloton in terms of both pricing and quality of product and service. The Flywheel Home Bike was a relatively new entrant to the market that was looking to dethrone Peloton as the leader in at-home streaming spin classes. This includes a personal water filter, a multi-tool device that can really come in handy during emergencies, and even a pack of playing cards. Much like the forgotten contents of your fridge's vegetable drawer, nose hair is a problem that can creep up on you without much notice. The best nose hair trimmers are an underappreciated tool in any man’s grooming arsenal, but you’d be a fool for ignoring the value in tidying up your nostrils and ear hair if you’re doing a full facial trim.
